About Us
Electrify Boroondara is a community-led alliance dedicated to accelerating the transition to a clean energy future.
Our independent, volunteer-powered alliance is growing and includes service organisations, local churches, schools, universities, climate and environment groups, and industry partners. Together, with support from the City of Boroondara and local elected representatives, we are educating and informing our community about energy efficiency and electrification to save money, improve health and comfort and create a safer climate.
Electrify Boroondara is non-partisan and has no affiliations with any political party. We are supported by local, state and federal elected representatives of all political persuasions. We encourage them to work as part of our alliance, to promote electrification of our community and accelerate the transition to a clean energy future.
Our goal is to inspire the community to electrify through adding solar panels, limiting heat loss and gain in buildings, and by swapping gas appliances and petrol or diesel-powered vehicles for efficient, electric alternatives powered by clean energy.
Goals
City of Boroondara research shows 93% of Boroondara residents think renewable energy and energy efficiency are very or fairly important. Our community is keen to contribute to climate action and are looking for practical opportunities to make a difference.
We are working to realise Boroondara Council’s ambitious goal of reducing carbon emissions in the community to net zero by 2035 by providing information, events, and initiatives to help people electrify their homes, businesses and transport.
Electrify Boroondara’s specific goals include:
increasing the uptake of rooftop solar and batteries
reducing the use of gas by transitioning to electric appliances
increasing the uptake of electric vehicles and ebikes
improving the energy efficiency of new and existing housing stock, apartments, and other buildings.

Electrify Boroondara became an incorporated association in 2023 so we could apply for grants and receive donations. As per the rules for incorporated associations, we have official “members,” some of whom fill the roles of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer etc. Our official name is Electrify Boroondara Incorporated.

Governance
The beating heart of Electrify Boroondara is our Alliance Advisory Group which meets monthly. It includes representatives from the Electrify Boroondara Working Groups - Strategy, Communications, Community Outreach, Schools, and Rental Housing - as well as local Councillors who participate as observers, MP representatives, members of Electrify Boroondara Inc and local service organisations.
As well as the Alliance Advisory Group, an Executive Group meets fortnightly to discuss management issues such as finance, strategy, incorporation administration and where to best focus our volunteer resources. All members of the Executive Group are also part of the Alliance Advisory Group.
All of our groups are powered by a growing team of volunteers who generously contribute their time and expertise.
Funding
We rely on grants and donations to cover our overheads and scale our impact. Please note, personal donations are not tax deductible at present.
